This edition stems from Quinn's ongoing studies related to transgenic plant-life and flowers.
His flower sculpture series ‘The Nurseries of El Dorado’ in 2008 consisted of an exotic aray of plants cast in bronze, which bore the flowers, fruits and vegetables from far off climates and eco systems, hybridising them into one magical species.
This Strawberry stands alone, as if fallen from one of these plants. Cast in bronze and cobalt treated to produce a beautiful oily effect, as if it had grown out of an ecological disaster, “a kind of sickly beauty”.
